Real Talk About “Morning Glory”

Where should I start?

Okay, so life itself—is a kind of mess for me. After the death of my husband, my beloved WaIker, I was feeling totally swamped. I was drained, broken, and just going through the motions. Despite how much I tried to escape from the trauma, I find it difficult to move on. Day by day, I was losing my consciousness and the will to live another day.

I knew I needed to reconnect with something that would gently support my breathing and heartbeat. Similar to my beloved, I needed to find someone who could prompt me to take the right path and make life much easier—like in the previous days.

That’s when I stumbled upon “Morning Glory: 30 Days of Self-Reflection – Experience Healing from Within” by Delceta Walters Soberanis. Honestly, I did not expect this book to be this good.

When I first started reading this book, it felt like a gentle nudge. It has a daily check-in that helped me slow down and actually think about my life and purpose. Each day was structured, which was perfect for my scattered brain. Bit by bit, day after day, through reflection, prayer, and some questions that made me think of my life and what I want, it helped me build a morning routine, which, trust me, is a miracle in itself.

One chapter that really hit home was “Focus on Forgiving, Receive Forgiveness.” I had no idea how much junk I had carried around from the past until I started to sift it. The reflection in that chapter, along with Matthew 6:14-15, was like a moment of turn that helped me to forgive myself for things that were not even in my control. I started to think of myself as a real person with real feelings who wanted to be free.

Then comes “Gratitude.” This chapter made me stop and actually see all the good stuff in life. After the death of my husband, I was left with only his memories. Reading this chapter and the verses in it made me reconsider my life and purpose. I realize that there are many things left for me to do. I realized that this is not the end of life; just a part of it. I could see what remained for me to do. It helped me to see the good and colors in life and changed my perspective to a more gracious and kind soul.

What I loved most about “Morning Glory” is how real it feels. Delceta does not speak down to us. Nor is she imagining. She is sitting across and sharing her own journey, which is extremely relatable. No matter where you are on your spiritual path and how confused or broken, her journey reminds us that we are not alone. Similar to how it helped to find God and His will, this book will help you to find God and be more convicted. It will help anyone to be more close to God and know that He is there for us every time we need Him.

Within 30 days, I experienced a significant change. Like, genuinely different. My prayer life? Way stronger. I even learned to let go of the stuff I couldn’t control, and I started actually living in the present moment. I am stronger, more resilient, and more devotional to God. Even those who saw me after my husband died could not believe I was the same person.

If you’re looking for a book to change your life, “Morning Glory” is it. No matter if you are broken, sad, humiliated, feeling pain, exhausted, or spiritually drained, this is the book that can help you find and regain strength, purpose, and peace. Within 30 days, I guarantee that you will be in a better state of mind and position and will be more devotional to the LORD.
